Massage Therapy & Paraspinal Therapy

In this Article will be provided to you a  brief explanation of a simple massage therapy and the method of triggerpoint therapy and Paraspinal Therapy on the target muscle.

First should we find the pain point. For this purpose, we can easily find out the exact point of pain and nerve involved in the target muscle with the help of the massager. This point is the triggerpoint and finding this point is the first step to remove the Cramps. Dont forget that a Triggerpoint can refer the pain to a completely different area and as explained befor, this happens because of the referral pain through the connective tissues( Myofascials) and common nerves of these tissues.

But what should be done after finding the Triggerpoint? The first task is to warmup the target muscle with few simple movements like Florage with help of suitable Oil massage. ( in the following articles will be explained more about suitable oils for targeted massages). Movement on the pain point should be done slowly with gentle pressure. Warming up the target muscle increases Blood flow inside of that tissue and this is the first step to Triggerpoint recovery. Increased blood flow causes more  and more appropriate delivery of Oxygen and substances needed by the muscle and of course, receiving more the body,s natural pain reliever ( Andorphin hormone) and helping to observe more by muscle and this cause to create a pleasant feeling in the massage recipient.

To know frome which part of the spinal colum, the desired triggerpoint nerve passes, is the next step of the treatment . To perform massage therapy, the masseur must have sufficient knowledge of the body,s anatomy and related muscles. Let,s use with an example which show you to find out how massage therapy and triggerpoint therapy is helpful to reduce pain. For example, let,s talk about how to massage the suboccipital subcranial area. The pain point is exactly at the back of the Neck and in the subcranial area. If you touch the back of the neck with your thumb and forefinger, you can easily find the pain triggerpoint. People who sit behind a desk for a long time and those who spend along time in the reading mode, suffer frome pain in this area due to the head falling on the neck. Ofcourse another complication called Whiplash can also cause this problem. People who have experienced a severe car accident are well familiar with Whiplash pain. As a result of the sudden impact of the car from the front and sudden Head forward, the muscles in the back of the neck are involved simultaneously and cause muscle stretching which is associated with the creation of a triggerpoint in the back of the Neck and ofcourse chronic stress can also cause such a complication.

paraspinal Therapy in Suboccipital

Paraspinal therapy in the suboccipital part is as follows:

First, you put gentle pressure on the point next to the c1 vertebra at the top of the Neck by placing the Neck between the heel of the hand and fingers for 60 seconds and release it. You should repeat this movement 5 times. By doing this, a pleasant sensation is created in the painful part of the back of the neck of the massage recipient. Then you should stand in front of the massage recipient, who is sitting on the massage table and intertwines the fingers of both hands and with the heels of both hands, by performing a petrisage movement, press the back of the Neck inwards and then released  backwards. Let,s make the action of compression and stretching towards and to the back and release should be done after the other and slowly.

The second stage of working on the damaged nerve

At this stage, we worke on the damaged nerve

for this purpose. We put the massage recipient on a chair and ask him to put his hands on the back of his back, paw to paw, and bend his head towards the abdominal cavity. Then sitting in the Same position and raised the Head and look at the ceiling of the Room. Exhale when bending the neck towards the abdominal cavity and inhale when looking at the ceiling of the room. This movements is performed 10 times in total.

The third step is pressure  on the trigger points

Apply and release pressure on the Triggerpoints for 30 to 60 seconds. By performing this operation, the nerve massage of pain is transmitted to the brain of the massage recipient and we informe the brain about performing massage therapy. The brain,s response to this pressure is the secretion of Andorphin, an anti pain hormone, frome the pituitary gland, which is very effective in reducing pain in the desired area.

The last step is stretching

In the last step, you end your work by doing stretching movements in the back of the neck. These movements relieve the muscle spasm caused by the suboccipital triggerpoint. We ask the massage recipient to sit in the same position, bend the head towards the chest and return to the first position with  5 second pause. This lengthens the involved muscles, helps to relieve spasm. It is important to know that pains manifest themselves reflexively. In this case, we can refer to the reflex pain resulting from the spasm of the Sternocleidomastoid and Trapezius muscles, which refer the pain resulting frome the spasm to the suboccipitalpoint.

More explanation about referal pain will be provided in the next articles.
